Art and Music History

Art is a time for students to practice and develop their artistic skills while also learning about famous artists, art techniques and types of art. Our students have participated in and won many 1st place prizes at the Miami Youth Fair competitions for painted art work, 3D sculptures, sewing projects and papier-mache.

We hope that students will develop an appreciation for music as they take a journey through history with a focus on music. They learn how music evolved in North America from as early as spirituals in the 1800's to modern day pop. Students get a sampling of different genres of music and study influential artists. They learn to recognize the difference between different genres of music such as differences in rhythm, melodies and instruments. The study of each genre or decade usually ends with a theme party where students are able to listen and dance to the music they have studied and dress accordingly!
